Winter: 2026
Hello everyone and welcome to this new space! Today
I want to share a very special gardening experience
with you. On my last trip, I got some beautiful
tulip bulbs that will produce incredible flowers:
deep orange with bright yellow edges
Planting tulips is an act of patience and hope. In
fact, one of them has already germinated! Let's hope
the second one wakes up soon too.
Below, I'll share the exact procedure and the tools
I use so you can grow your own tulips at home.
Tools and Materials Needed
Pots: 2.5 liters (ideal for maintaining the
temperature and moisture of one or two bulbs).
Substrate: A sandy mix rich in organic matter
(compost or worm castings are great). This ensures
good drainage, which is vital so the bulb doesn't
rot.
Hand trowel: To easily work the soil.
Watering can with a fine rose: For delicate watering
that won't displace the soil.
Gardening gloves: To protect your hands while
working.
Step by Step: The Art of Planting
Tulips
Preparing the Pot and Substrate Fill your 2.5-liter
pot with the sandy, organic substrate. Make sure the
pot has good drainage holes at the bottom.
Planting the Bulb:
Using your hand trowel, dig a hole. The golden rule
is to plant the bulb at a depth roughly two to three
times its height. Place it with the pointy end
facing up (where the shoot will emerge) and the flat
base down. Cover it with soil without compacting it
too much.
Resting in the Shade :
Once planted, place the pot in a shaded corner.
During this stage, the bulb is developing its
underground roots. Water it only slightly, keeping
the substrate just barely moist, but never
waterlogged.
Into the Winter Sun When you see that the bulb
has sprouted and the green stem breaks the surface,
it's time to move it! Transfer the pot to a spot
where it gets direct winter sunlight. Tulips need to
experience this winter chill to gather energy and
develop a strong flower.
Waiting for the Bloom By leaving it in the winter
sun, the plant will grow strong and healthy. The
flowering will occur exactly in Spring.
