Natural Agriculture: Symbiotic Cultivation – Avocado and Herbs

馃尡The Power of Natural Herbs and Humus for Your Fruit Trees

Welcome back to the blog! Today, we are exploring a fascinating method to elevate your gardening game: the symbiosis between fruit trees and natural herbs. In today's setup, we are looking at a young avocado tree (palta) living in perfect harmony with pink clover. This system goes beyond aesthetics; it recreates how nature operates in food forests. Here is the step-by-step method, the materials you need, and how to maintain the perfect balance.

Required Materials A potted or in-ground fruit tree (like our avocado tree).
Natural herb seeds or sprouts (pink clover is highly recommended for nitrogen fixation).
Pure earthworm castings substrate (as the soil base).
Liquid humus (essential for watering and nutrient balance).
Clean pruning shears.

Step-by-Step Benefits of This Systems
Step 1: Soil Base with Earthworm Castings Start your fruit tree in a rich base of pure earthworm castings. This provides an incredible microbial load and a spongy texture where both tree and herb roots can easily thrive together.
Step 2: Introducing the Living Cover (Pink Clover) Planting clover around the tree trunk helps aerate the soil. Additionally, clover captures nitrogen from the air and transfers it into the ground, naturally feeding your fruit tree.
Step 3: Balancing Nutrients with Liquid Humus To prevent the herbs from competing with the tree for nutrients, the secret is liquid humus. Applied during monthly watering, it provides fast-absorbing nutrients that keep both species balanced and vibrant.
Step 4: Monthly Stubble Pruning Every month, chop down the top growth of the herbs and leave the cuttings right on top of the soil.

Stubble Benefits: Leaving the chopped greens on the soil creates a natural mulch that retains moisture for much longer and provides temperature stability for the fruit tree's roots, shielding them from extreme weather.
