Autumn: 2026

🌱 Natural Farming: The Liquiamabar show arrived on the blog!

Autumn is doing its magic, and the Liquidambar (Liquidambar styraciflua) is the absolute star of the season! 🍁✨

Have you ever wondered why its leaves change into these breathtaking shades of yellow, orange, red, and deep purple? It’s all about chemistry! As days get shorter and temperatures drop, the tree stops producing chlorophyll (the pigment that makes leaves green). This allows other hidden pigments, like carotenoids (yellow/orange) and anthocyanins (red/purple), to finally shine.

Soon, the tree will lose all its leaves, entering a winter dormancy stage to protect itself from the cold. But right now, it’s also working on the future: its spiky, ball-shaped fruits are opening up to release seeds. This ensures that when spring arrives, the cycle starts again with fresh green leaves and delicate new flowers! 🌸🌱

How to collect and sow Liquidambar seeds: Collect: Gather the brown, spiky seed pods from the tree or the ground before they completely drop all their seeds. Extract: Place them in a paper bag in a warm spot. In a few days, they will shake loose their tiny winged seeds.

Stratify (Crucial Step): To mimic winter, mix the seeds with damp sand or peat moss and keep them in the fridge for 60 to 90 days. Sow: In early spring, plant them in well-draining soil, keep them moist, and wait for the magic to happen!
