The Brazilian Grass Cycle:

🌱 Natural Farming: The Brazilian Grass Cycle: From Autumn Maintenance to Winter Strengthening

Yesterday I spent some time gardening; I mowed the lawn and tidied up my garden using my own tools. I hope you like how it turned out! Regular maintenance is essential for achieving a dense, vibrant green Brazilian grass lawn, like the one seen in these photos and video. Mowing the lawn isn't just about appearance; it promotes lush growth and helps control weeds. The ideal frequency for mowing Brazilian grass during its peak activity period (spring and summer) is every 7 to 10 days, ensuring you never remove more than one-third of the leaf blade height at a time.

With the onset of autumn and cooler temperatures, which we are beginning to notice now, the grass's growth slows down significantly. During this season, mowing frequency should be reduced, perhaps moving to once every 15 or 20 days, or simply when necessary to maintain the desired look. The goal in autumn is to allow the grass to store energy for the winter.

As winter arrives, Brazilian grass may enter a semi-dormant period, especially in colder climates, turning somewhat yellowish. Mowing becomes very infrequent or stops completely. This is the ideal time for strategic fertilizing. Applying a slow-release fertilizer or compost during winter provides the necessary nutrients to strengthen the root system without stimulating excessive leaf growth, which could be damaged by frost. This winter care is crucial to ensuring that when temperatures rise in spring, the grass can "gain strength again" and "get back into the mowing routine" with vigorous growth and an intense green color, thus restarting the regular cycle of frequent mowing. In the video, you can see the "before" and "after" of the Brazilian grass cut, both at my place and the neighbor's.

¡Chears and Happy Farming!

Tomorrow I’ll be posting photos of my Yamani rice crop progress! It’s growing fast. 🌾 See you tomorrow!
