🌱Natural Farming: When Kabutia Transforms: Hybridization in the Garden

Sometimes nature has its own plans. After planting seeds from a Kabutia-type squash, I was surprised to find that the resulting fruits have a different morphology, looking more like a "Plomo" or "Criollo" squash. This happens due to cross-pollination, creating a unique hybrid in our garden. Scientific Name: Cucurbita maxima (likely a cross-breed). Common Name: Hybrid Squash / Pumpkin.

These squashes require soil rich in organic matter and plenty of space for their vines to spread. It is essential to manage watering to avoid leaf fungi and wait until the peduncle (the stem) is dry and woody before harvesting to ensure better preservation during winter.

¡Chears and Happy Farming!

Season Wrap-up: Thank you so much for following along! With these final harvests, the summer stage comes to an end. We are now starting the natural garden cleanup, preparing the soil and clearing organic debris to make way for the autumn-winter season work.
